Information on funding

Efforts are being made to be able to support partially some students and young researchers. Forms will be provided during the conference for requesting reimbursement in the event that such support becomes available. However, young researchers based in Europe are advised to apply for funding at EMS. For PhD students and recent PhDs (receiving their degree after 2010) based in the US, we expect (pending final award) to receive funds from the NSF to reimburse (up to $1700 USA) travel expenses to attend this conference. Qualified individuals should follow this link to submit an application (a current CV and brief letter from your research advisor or other senior researcher will be required in addition to the application information).

All buses will be departing from Syntagma square, Athens centre, more precisely, from Filellinon 6 & Othonos Street (in front of the Alpha Bank). All buses will stop over at the Athens airport at the level of arrivals. Passengers will be gathering at the Information desk (EXIT 3) and will be taken by volunteers at the the corner of the Terminal building right after EXIT 5.

Participants are expected to leave the IOA on Friday the 22nd or on Saturday the 23rd July. There will be coaches to Athens on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The timetable for the transportation from Athens to the IOA and back is as follows:

Reaching Ancient Olympia by bus

There is a direct bus from the Athens Airport to the Kifissos Bus Station, called X93. You can find the times of departure at Google Maps.

Here you can find the buses timetable in Greek and here is the buses timetable translated. You have to go from Athens to Pyrgos (the nearby capital) and from there to take a taxi to Ancient Olympia. Note that some times the bus schedules may change (we think unlikely). If you need further arrangements (e.g. taxi arrangement), please contact Mr Skaliarakis of the IOA: c.skaliarakis@ioa.org.gr.

Here is the online site where you can buy a ticket for the bus to Pyrgos. There is no English version but Google Chrome does almost a good job in translating it. Just have in mind that it translates Pyrgos to Tower.
